How Paging Systems Work in Restaurants?

People love to eat out especially during holidays and anniversary. How many times have you gone to a restaurant and had to wait for a table? It used to be that someone would take your name and then yell out or call over an intercom when your food was ready, which will make the place full of noise and complain from customers. Some restaurants still do this, but many now use restaurant pagers to solve this unpleasant problem.

You've probably seen these devices. The pager is a small plastic box that the hostess hands to you when she takes your name. You are then free to roam about within the immediate vicinity of the restaurant. Eventually, the pager lights up or vibrates, signaling that your table is ready. You take the pager back to the hostess and are led to your table. I will now explain how our paging systems work in restaurants (Or coffee shop).

Step 1: Order the Food at the Front Desk.

Enter the restaurant, the first thing that customers would do is going to the front desk, checking the menu and order the food or drinks they like and order.

Step 2: Hostess Hands the Pager to the Customers.

After finishing ordering the food, the hostess will hand a tiny device (maybe round or square or other shapes) where usually a number is attached, means the customers’ ordering number. And usually, the pager will have stickers on them where the logo of the restaurants will be on it.

Step 3: Customers Take the Pagers to Wait for Their Food.

Now, customers only needs to wait for their food. No need to wait in line to take the food, on the contrary, they can sit comfortably waiting, or if feel bored, they can hang around the place for a while. No worries about the distance, the paging systems usually have wireless signal range for 200m-300m, some of them even can reach 500m or more. And a small pager won’t cause you much trouble carrying, it is light in weight and small in size, easy to carry.

Step 4: Hostess Call the Customers when Their Food is Ready.

When the customers’ food is ready, the hostess will press the number of the customers to call their pager, when the pager is called, it will vibrate, flash and beep (the way it prompt can be changed by the owner, for example, can turn off the beep sound) to remind the customers to take their food at the front desk. Then the customers being called will come to the hostess and give back the pagers to take their food.
